Institutions of higher education have the main responsibilities of equipping students, researchers and faculty with advanced knowledge and skills. A well-equipped and managed library is an essential prerequisite to achieve this. In particular, scientific research needs a library as well as its laboratories. Keeping this in view, the Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University established Libraries in each and every constituent colleges and the University Library undertakes many responsibilities and performs varied functions and it plays a vital role in the university education and research by providing invaluable resource of knowledge to the stakeholders using all possible modern technologies in the field of Library and Information Science.

Genesis

The TANUVAS Library was established during 2013-14 to cater to the requirements of the university community and serves as the University Library which takes care of implementation of all centralised services viz., automation, digitization, subscription of e-resources, training of students, researchers and faculty to ensure effective use of the library resources.

The TANUVAS Library is presently functioning at Ground Floor of Central University Laboratory Building at University Headquarters campus, Madhavaram Milk Colony, Chennai - 600 051. The Library has good collection of textbooks, reference books, foreign journals, Indian journals, serial publications, Annual Reports, Technical reports, Theses and dissertations. The space for stacking and reading is about 3,600 sq.ft. At present, the Library functions on week days between 10.00 am and 5.45 pm.
